About

Why conserving the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau is so important

Coins for Conservation is a voluntary giving program in which the business community helps raise funds to conserve the natural treasures of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau by supporting the missions of two nonprofit conservation organizations: Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust (HCLT) and Highlands Biological Foundation (HBF).

The voluntary giving program is a way for the entire community to conserve the finest qualities of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau and to assist HCLT and HBF in fulfilling their individual missions to protect essential natural resources and drive biological research and educational initiatives in the southern Appalachians.

By doing this together we are all helping to maintain the quality of life here for present and future generations.

What is Coins for Conservation

This place is special.

Some say our mountains are among the oldest and most biologically diverse in the world. They are home to over 400 species of plants and animals, some of which occur nowhere else on the planet. Water that originates here eventually makes its way to either the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean, affecting all those in its path.

Understanding and protecting our wild places and the rich variety of plants and animals that depend on them is key to sustaining the way of life we love here.

Strategic conservation is not only the right thing to do, it’s good business. When you contribute to Coins for Conservation, you are making an investment that will have a lasting impact on the Plateau through the work of two nonprofit organizations, Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust (HCLT) and Highlands Biological Foundation (HBF). By supporting HCLT and HBS, you are contributing to the protection of the lush forests, cool waterways, and scenic vistas that draw so many here.
